About us
Ignis is a private workshop which was found in 1993 out of a need of expanding and offering workplaces for people with ‘special needs’ who have difficulties finding fulfilling work elsewhere.
Before the beginning of Ignis as a workshop and out of a long term experience in the realm of social work and social therapy arose an ‘understanding’ that no one is needed more than the other. Our work reflects the way of working in communities where everyone contributes with what one can do best according to one’s abilities and talents. The final work comes as a result of many hands working together.
Is it me who needs fulfilling work? Is it you in need of work? Do you need help or is it myself in need of real help? We are one.
Through its productive programs, the workshop offers creative possibilities and ongoing development of its work. Working with natural materials and working as a small group in a peaceful environment, brings about the therapeutic aspect of our work.
The main production is candles made out of pure beeswax. Ignis offers a different variety of candles. Candles rolled from beeswax sheets, smooth hand dipped candles and candles poured into a variety of moulded forms. Candles and other products are also being offered on a wholesale.
Another activity of our work, which arose out of needs and wishes from our customers, is a preparation of craft materials to be used in schools, day centres or families. It mainly constitutes of all craft work with sheep wool, colouring of sheep’s wool, small packs with instructions and little tools for needle felting etc. On Saturday and Sunday mornings regular courses happen in the workshop, courses for making dolls out of cotton material and filled with sheep wool and courses for needle felting. Materials being used during those courses are for sale in our shop, in an adjoining room at our facilities.
